HP48SX USB cable
I would like to link my HP48SX with my laptop, an HP Envy.

AFAIK, the laptop doesn't have any serial ports but it does have USB ports. Would these cables work?

I've used the cables from Myteknovo and had no troubles, though this was before Windows-10 so I suggest you have then verify the chipset they use and that it's available for Win-10. Some early chipsets from Prolific are no longer supported and getting drivers for Win-10 is "unsupported, sorry, plz buy a newer chipset".

Also, oh my have the prices for these gone up dramatically, they used to be $29...

No idea about the seller from Europe.

RE: HP48SX USB cable
I can recommend the above eBay seller javitopo; Javier runs the Casio880 site (which you should also check, lots of HP stuff), and I got my 48GX and serial cables etc from there.

If you have any queries, an email to them will get you the answers you need.

RE: HP48SX USB cable
Samson Cables in the U.S. sells them for $30 + S/H. Some of their products can be a little pricy, but they have a wide selection of HP related products and the service is great. Check here

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the Samson cable includes a CD. :-(

I hope I'm wrong.

There's a link to the windows drivers at the bottom of the page, and the connectivity kit software can be found at hpcalc.org - along with tons more applications.

??? http://www.hpcalculators.com/drivers/ yields a 404 Error: Page Not Found.

As to HPCalc.Org, is this Conn4x?

RE: HP48SX USB cable
My recommendation is a 2-cable solution:
The reason for doing this is that there is no standard spec for serial over USB. This results in companies making proprietary chips with proprietary drivers that go out-of-date when they stop supporting them (ex: like what happened to some HP48-direct-to-USB cables). Thus, as your older Serial-to-USB cables become unsupported, you can just go out an buy a new replacement for dirt-cheap prices.

email sales@samsoncables.com to ask about the drivers, they are quite helpful and usually reply quickly.

Conn4x is HP's connectivity software pkg for Windows for the HP-48/49/50 series calculators. This is available at hpcalc.org, which is a private (non HP-owned) website with thousands of series 48/49/50, 38/39/40, and Prime calculator programs, documents, manuals, and much more.

The main site: https://www.hpcalc.org/

Conn4x: https://www.hpcalc.org/details/5890
