More info:
The 9805A has manuals and is in a plastic carrying case. Serial # 1239A00072.
The 9100A, the 9805A, and the two 9820A's do not have serial numbers. They are probably production prototypes. One 9820 says 9820 on the front but the serial number sticker on the back says 9810 made in W. Germany.
I also have a bunch of parts (case, PC boards, etc.), still in original boxes, for most of a HP 46.

Looking at on-line photos, I suspect that the plastic case currently holding the 9805A was actually intended for an HP 46.
