Did the serial numbers for the regular production restart at 1??

They start from 100
I have place order for DM42 and have received thanks for order email.

Question: Will I received another email when it ships? Will it have tracking number?

Hoping to get it for Christmas but not sure there is enough time left. well - still would make a very nice New Years treat.

I believe you will get a second email. I did, as I ordered Saturday and received a tracking mail this morning (Tuesday)
Good to hear... ordered mine Saturday so hopefully my shipped email will be here soon.

I enjoyed playing with the DM42 at HHC this year and can't wait to have my own.

I’ve never received any shipping confirmations or tracking numbers from SM in the past, so I doubt this will be any different. It shipped via Swiss Post in a box with no obvious tracking code and was delivered to my house via USPS. Beware that you will need to sign for it, so someone needs to be home when it arrives.

As a minimum, an email saying it had shipped would be nice. Otherwise, it's a guessing game - has it shipped or is it lost in shipment or ...

Yep - I never seem to be at home whenever I order from overseas and then have to go to the shippers office and pick it up.

I had the forethought to have mine shipped to the office this time. There's a very good chance I'll be in Florida when it shows up. The receptionist will be able to sign for the delivery.

Model: DM42
Description: the ultimate calculator
HP equivalent: based on HP-42S
original price: $120

Most sites say the original HP42S came out on October 31, 1988, but the manuals were printed June, 1988...Did it really came out late October or was it earlier???

Though not definitive, I was aware of the 42S before its introduction, and was ready to order one as soon as available and I got mine in December. I just checked my sales receipt from Educalc, it is dated 12/2/88. This tells me late October launch seems correct. It took 4-6 weeks to ship to distribution, then to dealers.

I worked at Sharp at the time, on similar products, and several months lead time from manual freeze, then print, binding, serial production, etc., and on to product delivery is about right. Also, my 42S manual also says "Printed in U.S.A. 6/88" on the back cover, but inserted inside the front cover, in the spiral binding, is a 1-page announcement of the 82241A IR Printer and the "Programming Examples and Techniques" book; on the backside of the insert is "Printed in U.S.A. 8/88".

Gene: :-) Do tell, what did Sharp's HP 42S look like?

Ha.

A lot like a Wizard... Wink

The Alpha keyboard was a LOT easier to use, otherwise I'd have to say the 42S was a heck of a lot better for calculating....

October 31, 1988 is the date mentioned at the beginning of the HP-42S Review published in HPX Exchange V1N6 August /December 1988.

Is the built-in help included? The last beat releases included a sample screen to demonstrate font styles, etc. but these was no active content. If it's there, what do you think of it?

No, the Wizard and Zaurus PDA product lines (in US, these were OZ-xxxx and ZR-xxxx products, ROW used IQ-xxxx and ZR-xxxx). I managed development of PC-based link products, add-in applications (e.g. spreadsheet) and 3rd-party tools and support.

Yes, it is included. The help looks really good, you can jump to other contents via hyperlinks.
