More to "when was the last 41C made?"
04-16-2016, 12:55 AM
Ref: "A guide to HP Handheld Calculators and Computers" book from Wlodek.
41C -> Introduced: 1979-07-01 & Discontinued: 1985-01-01
41CV -> Introduced: 1980-12-15 & Discontinued: 1990-01-01
41CX -> Introduced: 1983-10-01 & Discontinued: 1991-11-01
Now I understand that those dates are not the manufactured dates, but its a starting point.

Ah Ha!
That is good. I have a flatter, thin box for the 41C, (like many 41CX's) but no calculator. Manuals are 1983.
I don't think they made very many like this before discontinuing the model

Gene: It might be interesting to see HP 41CX serial numbers that started with 31XX. Not sure I've seen any that late myself.

I always remembered the 41C being introduced on July 16th rather than July 1st, so I checked the HP Key Notes and PPC Journal and got confirmation there. Here is the cover of HP Key Notes V3N3 (Aug 1979):
...and here is PPC Journal V6N4P7, showing two Hewlett-Packard press releases:
