More than 20 years ago I decided to create a more readable version of the manual for the HP 82183A Extended I/O Module. I sent it for inclusion in the MoHPC manual set and forgot about the whole business till a couple of days ago when I got an email from Eric Rechlin.
He wrote that there was a problem with the PDF, in that it was not searchable. Wow, all these years and it never occurred to me to use the search function? I tried it and Eric was right.
OK and now what to do about it? The manual was created using a 20 year old version of Word and I vaguely remembered having to do some shenanigans to get the correct colors on the final copy.
Anyway I fired up a VM with Win2K and Office 98 (or whatever) and created a new version of the PDF which was searchable. I sent it to Eric and it is now available at:
https://literature.hpcalc.org/items/2597
However when looking for the files of the 82183A manual I also saw another file that turned out to be the HP 00041-15043 HP-IL Development Module Owner's Manual. This was also re-typeset to be more readable and look like the other HP manuals in the series.
I had totally forgotten I had created this manual and, in fact, couldn't even find the original manual that I used to make the file. Luckily Eric had a scan of another version of that manual so that we could proofread the remade file. Eric did practically all of the proofreading and I updated the manual. Now with a few final touches by Eric it is also available at:
https://literature.hpcalc.org/items/2598
Please, if you find any errors, do send me an email either here or using the email address I included in the manuals. It will help improve the manuals and prevent any confusion to the people trying to use them.
Once again, many thanks to Eric for his help and for getting me to finish the HP-IL manual after all those years.
