Full Version: DM32 blank keyboard option - would you want it? How blank?

While it has not been confirmed that the DM32 will run DMCP, it is exceedingly likely to have at least some relatively easy way to install custom firmware. And the hardware platform is very desirable. This leads me to believe that a blank keyboard option, while not useful with standard firmware (also not a given I guess), would be very useful indeed to us nerds that are likely to install other stuff.

The question is, how blank? More specifically, for a blank option, would we want the Enter row to be untouched, or 48 / 41 -like with third key blank, or all 3 keys blank?

Or, possibly, are we actually not interested in a blank keyboard?

I made mockup images, because why not.
And I had to use Firefox instead of Vivaldi to be able to attach those pictures, rendering process crashed in Vivaldi (and qutebrowser, also based on Chromium I think).

Here they are!

I think they were swapped on SM's preview images too. Oh well! They have plenty of time to correct them.

Yes, SwissMicros swapped them on the preview.
Seems like it would be important to have an easy way to make keyboard templates, and for them to stay on the keyboard like the little latch on the 41. The keyboard recess may be sufficient. Then there's the issue of the key tops. The various 41 template kit solutions are probably sufficient.

But a true geek would not need a template ;-) So how about a TOTALLY BLANK keyboard option. I've heard of something like that before?

I voted for the enter row with the 3rd key blank, as it seems like anything that isn't related to number entry or basic operation doesn't make sense to me.

A totally modifiable platform such as proposed would be seriously nerdy fun, no doubt.
