Hi All,

Forty one years ago today (June 15, 1980) I flew to Chicago to attend my first PPC conference. I remember the late Jack Stout welcoming us at the airport and then driving us in a white van to Ace Metal where he worked. There I met Richard Nelson and others like Jake Schartz, Bill Kolb, Roger Hill, Brian Walsh, and many others. It was the beginning of a special friendship and fellowship. The meeting was awsome with talks about the new HP-41C and the magic it can do!!

Long live RPN and the PPC!! Thanks Jack Stout for being a wonderful host many times!!!

The friday night before the conference, we all huddled in and around Jack's garage, doing "calc things" :-) At one point, a handful of us were in Wes Staples' RV, working with Ron Johnson's new HP-85, generating HP-41 barcodes on the '85 thermal printer. Later in the garage, I remember asking Bill Wickes to look at some "weird" HP-41 instruction and he investigated it for quite a while, concluding that it was some sort of 'Q-loader'. Jim De Arras was showing off his hand-built breadboarded HP-41 memory expansion board. And on and on.... Fun times!

I remember the RV and the HP85. Since there was no mass media then, connecting in person was awsome and very productive. I was very impressed with the HP85 that by the end of the year I bought one.
