It passed the On-F4 test. and it has the 2.15 firmware. maybe it got a bad flash at the factory, maybe i will reflash with 2.15 and see if it goes away. at least that would rule out software and must be some sort of hardware problem
I did a firmware flash with the same firmware that I flashed in my 49g+ and it still shows up so it must be a hardware thing. Doesn't seen to affect anything just kinda strange

Could it be caused by a slow SD card, or by one or more obnoxious libraries? Both can have an effect on the HP 50g startup process.

OK, so it is not a hardware fault.
It means it is a software issue.
If the calculator was mine, my next step would be a full reset to factory defaults.
Quoting the above site " Press and hold the top left and right keys then the [ON] button, the 50g beeps and asks whether the user wants to try to recover the contents of memory. Press any key once and followed by answering NO to this question means that the calculator will be completely reset and everything will be deleted, bringing the calculator back to its state as new"
EDIT:
If the above procedure doesn't work, try this one:
- Press ON + F1 + F6
- Release F6
- Release F1
- Release ON
The calc ask "Try to Recover Memory?"
- Answer NO to clear all contents except the flash *
Or if it doesn't help either, try removing all the batteries including the button cell for at least 1 hour to be on the safe side.
* for the flash, please read the above link remarks.
I followed jebems instructions. even after facotory reset with empty memory and empty flash it still does it. I just bought last week, I will keep an eye on it and I may decide to exchange it.
I wonder sense the NSA has accomplished saving everybodies phone calls, maybe know there infecting peoples calculators to spy on what americans are calculating.
