Full Version: More lines on 48G display?

Is there a way to increase the number of lines displayed on 48G? I'm sure I did this at one point (perhaps it was a different model), but can't find anything about doing so in the manual (the version I have is not searchable, so I may have missed it).

Is there a way to do this? Am I remembering a different model (I'm sure it had a similar display, e.g. I can clearly picture { HOME } being present)?
Hello!

Why would you want to do that? The display is hardly readable as it is now (even before I needed to wear reading glasses...) so squeezing in more lines using the existing pixels will make it completely useless. The only way to do that would be to remove the display and use a modern OLED mobile phone display instead...

YMMV

Can it be done?
I think Metakernel and/or SpeedUI let you change the stack font. But I'm not sure the 48G has enough space to install either.

Nice!

Now I just need to figure out how to install that! (New to this.)
Along with the one franz mentioned, there are a number of "stack replacement" programs at hpcalc.org. Some of them are quite small in size.

Hello,

Look for the MetaKernel, it is the ultimate in this...
But it is rather large and requires a memory card all to itself...
However, it does much more than just give you more stack level, it includes a new editor, a new matrix, equation and graphic editor. It also has a bunch of development tools build in...

Yes, thanks; that walks great!

I've got that (v 2.30) working now on my emulator (m48+ on iOS) now.

What do I need to do to get it loaded on my hardware 48G? Where do I get the latest version?
MetaKernel is available for download here: https://www.hpcalc.org/details/213

You'll need a serial cable and a 128 KB card in port 1. So it will only work with a 48GX or 48G with memory extension.

Is it available anywhere already on a ROM card (as described here)?

Yep. SpeedUI lets you choose between up to four different font sizes.
There is an ultra lite version of SpeedUI which will fit into a normal 48G with only 32K of RAM.
Of course that reduced version lacks many features of the full version;-)

For minimum size, I really like HP Sauce MILD by André Schoorl

I have that running on several HP 48g's where size is critical and MetaKernel Won't fit.

New cards are of course out of the question...
Can you find a 2nd hand one? maybe? I do not know...
I don't even think that I have one myself!
