Although I switched to RPN HPs as soon as I could, I remember using a Casio FX-1000f during my school days. I loved the formula library and overall it performed quite well.

So I am searching for one and I see two similar models, the FX-1000f and the FX-5000f. Does anyone know the differences between them?
According to ledudu, it's just the addition of hyperbolic functions (and their inverse):

I'm kind of curious as to why the addition of hyperbolic function was such a big feature at the time that they changed the shape of the calculator (The 5000F is a flatter calculator) and gave it a new model name.

The fx-5000F included a folding wallet, so needed to be flat.

This settles it then! My calculator had a folding wallet so it must have benn a 5000f. My memory is a bit hazy after 30+ years...
This reminds me of a conversation we had last year on the 6000G/6500G; they share a manual, and I posted that the only difference I could find was the latter added hyperbolics, other than the thickness.

I only have the 5000F, but it also shares a manual, with the 1000F and, again, the only differences I can see are added hyperbolics and the thickness/angle. A pattern emerges… Smile
