Full Version: WP 34S bug

A bug was reported a while back where the factorial of complex numbers with negative real components was incorrect:

Code:
WP34S emulator: (-6.2-7.6i)! = -20.3658 + i1.2046
WolframAlpha:   (-6.2-i7.6)! = -9.8594e-11 + i3.2965e-12

This was the result of two errors in the gamma function reflection formula and impacts all functions that rely on this:
  • complex Beta
  • complex Combinations
  • complex Factorial
  • complex Gamma
  • complex LnBeta
  • complex LnGamma
  • complex Permutations

Fixes have been pushed to the sourceforge repository.

I expect that new firmware images will be built when those how do that get around to it. Don't hold your breath.

Thanks for spending the time to support this (your) great project!

I really like this little one. I have one each of 31S, 34S, 34C and 34C-eRPN.
The 34C-eRPN model is my go-to unit. I did buy batteries in bulk ;-)

Now to update my fleet.
J

Edited my typo: corrected ā€˜31Sā€™.
Please wait for the images to be updated (which will take however long it takes).

I really appreciate your support for the project.

Pauli
I powered up my old build system and it still works :-)

Please test the latest revision.
I made some images using the standard features files and flash scripts and placed the resulting emulators and calculator binary files in a zip file, conveniently with all the documentation files I could find.

I saw, as I typed this, that Marcus just provided confirmation that he compiled it. Thank you very much for the compile. I will download and try that one some time.

I use the 34C but I also did the files for the 34S. I tested only my 34C file on a 30B, but not the other versions that I provide in the zip file. I copied the full Windows bin folders with emulators and realbuild folders with calculator binaries, for the previous build and this new build. I did not compare it with Marcus' build, as it basically came out at the same time.

I made a pdf with some extra information, links, Nigel's write-up, and other bits and pieces that I either made or found on complex operation of the 34C, with a practical worked example. Any typos or content errors, please let me know. WP34C

Here the Zip file for download. It is rather big, some 100 MB.

Hey Marcus, you've been away quite a while, hope all is well.

And of course you know, this activity will undoubtedly spur a whole new scramble to locate serial cables...

Thanks!

Awesome. I will give it a try.

Mostly. The loss of my wife in 2018 is still an issue. And I'm feeling my age. Wink

On Sunday we had a funny reunion here in my house. Pauli came over from Australia and more enthusiasts from the 34s and 43s community have joined in. I'm pretty sure, someone will post pictures.
The group photograph from the meeting Marcus mentioned is online. The image is straight off the camera and large.

The people present include the WP 34S trinity, the WP 43S developers plus two of the three behind the replacement boards for the classic, woodstock and spice ranges.

Could you (or somebody) ID everybody L ā†’ R ? Thanks!
Let me try:

Pauli Dale, Harald Overbeek, Gert Menke, Marcus von Cube (me), Martin Lorang, Harald Pott, Walter Bonin, Bernhard ... (Panamatic).

Please correct me if I got it wrong.

Not visible in the picture are the ladies: Pam Dale who took the picture and Vivian (?) who came with Harald Overbeek.

Harald Overbeek here. It was fantastic meeting you guys!

I second that. It was fun to have you all in my house.

Hey, it was great fun to be your guests. Was a very nice place at you for a dozen people. And three times more calculators were shown around.

Would you like the idea to have the same meeting again next year at the same time. Perhaps Pauli will not travel every year to germany, but others could join in. I will be in again.
