… although it is necessary to make several assumptions, the Kapustinskii equation provides a useful method to obtain approximate lattice energies, especially when the experimental data necessary for more precise calculation is lacking.
A computer programme … was employed to calculate the 'thermochemical radii' contained in Table 3 of this Appendix … an identical programme {pages 177-179} was written for use with a Hewlett Packard HP-65 programmable calculator.
