Full Version: Google unit converter

I suppose most of us are familiar with Google's capabilities for converting currencies and other stuff ("120 USD in EUR" etc). That's a handy feature for fast conversions, you directly get the result in the desired unit, and that's it.

But there is more. Maybe the following is known to the whole community here, and I'm the last to find out, but anyway: Enter a conversion of physical units and you get a full-featured conversion calculator. For instance, try "400 Ws in cal", and you get a complete dialog that lets you choose between numerous energy units to convert between. Or simply enter "unit converter" (google.com) or "Einheiten umrechnen" (google.de) and see the options: The whole thing works for quantities like force, speed, temperature, energy, length, area, pressure and many more, including fuel consumption.

Sorry if this is old news, but maybe the one or other member here had not noticed this before. Like me. ;-)

Yes I have been using this so called "Google's Interactive Unit Conversion OneBox" by Google. I use this to check answer for conversions many times but never realize when this feature was available on google.com

Here is the link from google when they first introduced it.

Another interesting one is the Google Calculator check this out.

Thanks for finding that Gamo. Gives me the date when they added this feature, which was something I was curious about.

I also learned from this thread that Google conversion tool has a fuel consumption as a category. Interesting. I don't play with the conversion tool that much. Usually my first thought is to reach for my HP 50g

LOL.... Excellent. Thanks Dieter, I can start my weekend with a smile.
I love the currency converter and use it regularly for monitoring € ↔ $US rates before I go on a fischertechnik buying spree from ebay.de.

Now, if only the rates could get back to €1.00 = $US 1.04. Still $1.18 is a whole lot better than $1.40 we had a few years ago...
