Good job! But they could have used my car instead (which is over 20 years old) and given me that Tesla instead ;-)
I watched the live stream from SpaceX. Pretty awesome! I loved the simultaneous landing of the two side boosters. Too bad they lost the feed from the drone landing ship when the center booster was landing. Does anyone know yet if that one was successful, too?

Yes. Quite a show.
They wouldn't have wanted to trade for my 47 year old Volvo 1800e. It'd need a bigger rocket to get that cast iron beast into even L.E.O. It does have wings though.
"Now, what about the center core?" will become 2018's word/sentence/phrase of the year

I probably am over estimating the real impact of this event, but I think the accomplishment is tremendous. Watching this brought a similar excitement of the Mercury/Gemini/Apollo launches, with the added show of the synchronized landings of the SpaceX boosters. That was impressive!

Since NASA was a taxpayer funded enterprise they couldn't be too outrageous with the optics. Sending a Tesla Roadster up with a SpaceX suit behind the wheel and a copy of "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" in the glove box is inspired insanity.

Now, what about the center core?

Error correction edit: Clicking a few degrees from the link in my next post the book is Asimov's "Foundation" series, not "Hitchhiker's" as I had heard on a radio report earlier today. This disappoints me for some reason.
To answer my own question:
The Core Booster missed the drone ship.

Still impressive though.

The red sports-car with driver in a spacesuit is taken from the 80's movie "Heavy Metal", an awesome animated film from the authors and illustrators of the Heavy Metal magazine. Seems Musk must have really liked the movie.

Yes apparently some of the engines misfired and it was coming down much too fast. It was however very cool seeing the other two boosters touch down.

Paul.

There was a large sign in the centre of the dashboard with "Don't panic!" on it. So a very important bit of the Hitchhiker's Guide was on board as well!

Precisely what I thought!

Found it!

For those that don't recall the HEAVY METAL movie, here is the opening sequence:

My bad, the Corvette in the movie was not red.

Any doubt this is where Musk's inspiration came from?

Curiously, I also remembered that Corvette in red.
