Are older HPs date code based on Fiscal year?
Message #1 Posted by Roy on 13 Apr 2004, 8:57 p.m.

There is a HP calculator web site that says the older HP date codes are based on HPs Fiscal year, and not the actual year. It says the fiscal year starts on November 1st..so in other words a HP calc would be 2 months newer than if using January as the start of the year...Is this true? I ask since the HP Museaum seems to claim the year starts in January, while the site I am referring to says it starts the previous November for the HP Fiscal Year.

The URL site that speaks of the November start of the fiscal year for the date codes is

Roy,

I can vouch for the fiscal year/serial number deal with at least one data point. I purchased my cherished HP-15C in late fall 1982, yet the S/N indicates 1983. These calculators sold very well back then, so I'm not surprised that I nabbed one fresh out of the US factory, before the end of the calendar year.

Regards,

Doug
