Looking for Power supply 82066B
I own an HP 71-B fantastic calculator, but missing the power supply. Although it's available, asking price is very high for a power supply only.

Two options:

- Someone can offer this power supply for a reasonable price.
- Or I buy an adapter with same specs, but need the connector. Can anyone tell me which connector I should buy.

Thank you all

Regards,

Richard

Are you sure of that part number? From a search on this forum I understand the 71B uses the same power adapter as the 41, 65 and some HP printers. That adapter model number is HP82059B, 8 Volt AC output, 3 Watts max. A bit pricey I agree at $20 for the cheapest one on eBay (referred to as TAS around here).

You might roll your own using an 8V or 9V wall adapter. I doubt you'll find the right connector anywhere but check Mouser or Digi-Key (or maybe even an auto parts store!) for a receptacle contact of the right size to fit the 71 plugs. An oversized receptacle can always be crimped down to fit. Start here, for some parts

A homemade adapter may end up costing nearly as much as the real thing though, so you might check eBay periodically or use an automated search. Patience is generally rewarded Smile

Richie is in Netherlands, so 82066B is the right adapter, intended for 220V wall power. And those are generally much higher cost on TAS than an 82059, but could be cheaper in European local flea markets, ebay.de, etc.

It's the AC-adapter that is also used with the HP41's rechargeable battery back, the HP97, some printers and various other devices. But I'm quite sure it does not fit the HP65.

The 82059 is only correct if you both live in a 110-V-region and a US-plug is required. Since Richie is from Europe the right thing is a 82066B, that's the one for 220 V and it has a regular Euro-plug. The last one I got was a special offer at an electronics store – for 2,95 DEM or about 1,50 €. ;-)

And yes, this is a very common device so it should be available for a moderate price.

Well, that explains why a quick search of the part number on TAS (US of A version) only turned up brake lines and other miscellaneous auto parts! Better add a few more keywords next time...

RE: Looking for Power supply 82066B
There are two for sale here in the U.S. on eBay for around $45. I think that's reasonable compared to the hassle of building a connector.

Be aware, the AC adapter will NOT recharge batteries installed in the 71. For that reason I rarely use an AC adapter with my 71 and instead use Eneloop's or other LSD batteries and recharge them externally in a smart charger, like a BC-700.

Good to know! That may well be the real answer the OP needs...

RE: Looking for Power supply 82066B
Thank you all. One of your members offered me the power supply for an reasonale price.

I know it's not charging the batteries, but it is more convenient for me.
