Help with HP 110 Portable
Hi,

I bought an HP 110 Portable PC ("Nomad") at an electronics flea market. I've plugged it in with an 82059D, tried to turn it on, and got nothing.

There's no battery in it. Is a battery necessary even if the AC is plugged in? If so, is it possible to buy one? After a fair amount of googling, my two candidates for compatible batteries are the SLA1252 (https://www.batteriesexpressinc.com/Powe...la1252.htm) and the 0810-0102HP (https://www.energyplusbatteries.com/MD32...AC_Adapter).

The first doesn't look like it's compatible: the picture on the web site doesn't have pins that would be compatible with the connector in the 110's battery compartment. The second is for the Portable Plus (with the larger screen), and I don't know if that's compatible with the 110.

If you have any information or troublshooting advice, I would appreciate it.

Thank you,
Bob

This thread has useful info:

Also, some service manual details can be found here:

RE: Help with HP 110 Portable
Thank you, Bob. I don't have the "little PCB" that Tony Duell mentions in that thread; whoever discarded the battery must've discarded the PCB too. But I see from Tony's schematic that I really only need to power the red and black wires on the connector. If necessary, I could rig something up.

Tony's schematic on page 17 doesn't show where the charger connection goes to. You wouldn't happen to know whether a battery is required for the 110 to turn on, would you?

Thanks,
Bob

RE: Help with HP 110 Portable
I have a Portable Plus (HP 110+)...

As far as I know, it does not harm the computer to power it from the AC adapter with no battery installed. I've done it with mine, and there's been no harm. This is only my personal experience. If anyone else knows differently, please speak up!

I believe the second battery is probably a good replacement, but I could not see any picture of it. A couple of years ago, I was able to get a Universal Battery UB3.2-6k for $19. I see they may not make that one any more, but this one is available for less, and it appears to have the same specs, offering a little more AH:

I had to jury rig mine, as I also do not have the little PCB, but it worked for me.

Good luck!

smp

You'll find some other battery references with pictures here.

RE: Help with HP 110 Portable
smp, my 110 does not turn on with AC power applied to it. The fact that you've been able to run a 110 without the battery means that the lack of a battery is not the problem I'm having. My 110 is broken in some other way.

Thanks Didier, I looked for this but could not find it. I knew Dave had posted some pics of the 110+ batteries, but (casual) searching failed.

I believe the 110's battery is different then the 110+ batteries pictured in the above post.

That smp was able to run his Portable PLUS with out battery may not mean your 110 is defective. Check the service manual and refer to the troubleshooting procedures.

rprosperi - If you're having problems with Google searches I can recommend a nice presentation.

Oh, wait, that's your presentation. Smile
