Chinese Characters in the "Function" App/Numeric View
Hi everybody,
Today I encountered a behavior that seems to be somewhat strange. Is this a known bug? If so, I beg your pardon, but I didn't find this mentioned in the net.

App: "Function"; enter a function in the symbolic view (any should work)
Language: German, Englisch, Netherlands, Francais, etc., not tested with Chinese/Japanese etc.
Push the "Num" button. Left (X) column should be highlighted.
Push the "Defn" soft-button. Wenn moving to "Defn." (WITH the bullet!) the prime shoud say "Vars". So it does sometimes, but this happens not consistently. Sometimes (try to put in another function, or change the function, i. e. play around, can't it provoke it every time, but changing the function two or three times should do it) instead of "Vars" you (at least I do so) see chinese (japanese/korean?) characters - only on the physical Prime.

Yes, I know about my bad karma.

Regards,
Hans

I've not been able to see this at all when testing using a freshly downloaded copy of the latest ROM. I did not test earlier versions.

Anyone else?

Although I work for HP, the views and opinions I post here are my own.

Tim,
should I be the only one? I can it still reproduce, but unfortunately not by force.
Today, it worked "correctly uncorrect" at my first try. Later on, the system worked as it should, say, ten times. Then again the chinese letters.

Would this help?:
Software Version: 2017 07 10 (12066)
...
Serial Number: 3CD61703B6

Regards,
Hans

I think I have followed your directions, but I have not seen the problem. If I did, I think I might use the diagnostic feature, and format disk c:, and reload the firmware. It might just be a karma corrector.

Most probably, I found a necessary constraint:

Number Format has to be "Fixed", in my case "4"

Hans

Edit: Just "worked" also with the "Standard" number-format. Sorry for the confusion.

H.

What if I had the "British Guiana One Cent Magenta" of calculators?

That would be one prime Prime. Perhaps, you could chrome it, and pawn it off to a wealthy collector, that had the yen for it?
