RE: DM42 News
Ordered, since I'm an easy mark. I'm expecting this will probably take at least 2-3 weeks for delivery to USA.

Well, so much for the e-mail message to let us know about it... I signed up for it weeks ago, but I never got one. Sigh.

The emails will be sent out on Sunday at noon Swiss time (UTC+1), by which time they will probably be sold out. I bought mine within two minutes of its availability. Smile

RE: DM42 News
Way to expensive for me, but nice there's a serious RPN-calculator made again. Congrats to Thomas for having a nice home for his free42 and lots of fun to all owners :-).

RE: DM42 News
Well we could just slowly save those 10 CHF per month, after 20 months it is there!

In the meanwhile I guess (and hope that):
(a) the community, at least here, would flourish again with new programs, challenges, discussions and so on.
(a.1) Although swissmicro has a phpBB forum, I think most of the community discussions would happen here (while there people would report bugs/feedback I think), since larger and/or established communities normally attracts more attention (given a topic).
(b) bugs may be discovered and hopefully fixed.
(c) more documentation could be published.
(d) may be the price will sink a bit. Maybe.

So as long term investment does not seem that bad!

RE: DM42 News
Jan Łukasiewicz' legacy is pretty alive! :0)
It doesn't stem from a mainstream global player, like HP, but the birth of a new RPN calculator always brings great news for everyone in the forum, IMHO.
Besides, and more importantly, Swissmicros' focus on the pros makes me wonder what novelties may we be offered in the near future. Would they be far from being able to include a parallel CAS mode in the DM42? I don't think so :0)

Do not underestimate the cost of development of such solution. It is easy to state something, less easy to do it.

RE: DM42 News
I would rather say integration, instead of development. They wouldn't need to develop a CAS from the ground up.
Anyway, you are right, the integration of XCAS, for example, might certainly take quite an effort :.!

I'd love to see it evolve into Free47, with features from the 17BII and 27S added. (Symbolic solver, list-based stats, finance, appointment alarms, etc.)

There are plenty of programmable CAS calculators out there, including the HP Prime, so we really don’t need any more of them. What we don’t have are proper RPN programmables, and the DM42 brings back this capability. HP has all but abandoned RPN programmables. The Prime lacks RPN programmability and the HP 50g has been discontinued. We are left with only the HP 35s as a scientific RPN programmable and it is extremely limited in its capabilities. I would rather see Swiss Micros focus exclusively on RPN, instead of being distracted by other capabilities which we really don’t need or want as true devotees to RPN.

RE: DM42 News
If anything, it should offer the same hardware for the WP43 (once they will find the time to actually code it).

RE: DM42 News
A WP43 version of the DM42 hardware might mean ca. a couple hundred units in X years' time. I agree it would be nice to have it. So far the layout and UI seem gorgeous.
Nevertheless, adding a CAS to a CCS ('Computer Calculus System') might bring much wider target mark€t$, IMHO.
HP forgot RPN? Well, it doesn't necessarily need to be so in SM 's case.
'Armchair CEO dixit' ;0)

PS: it is so nice to discuss in this forum, with plenty of bright people around. No kidding. I felt so, and I thought, what the heck, why not saying so? Yep, I must be getting older >D

Let's give Claudio L. some more time, and newRPL + XCAS could make such a charming couple! couldn't they?

I don't care about RPL.

RE: DM42 News
A DM41 done right would probably be a good choice, thanks to the huge existing software base.
