RE: New Version: 2016.04.14 r10077
Update on my installation problem:

The problem I had installing the new firmware (needed to be logged on as Administrator, not just have admin rights) didn't happen with my home machine. Both machines have identical hardware and Windows version with all updates applied. The one difference is that the machine at work is on a AD Domain and the one at home is not on any domain at all.

Thanks! I've been trying to resolve this one for a while now and it has proven surprisingly resilient. Maybe this little piece of info will help it out.

The new update method shouldn't have problems as admin is no longer required and it just pushes the files to the device directly like a transfer of other data files from he connkit.

RE: New Version: 2016.04.14 r10077
Hello Tim

I'm not sure I understand correctly when you write that Admin log in is no longer needed.
I have not been able to directly install the FW updates at work since I do not have the required rights for this, so I downloaded the .exe files directly from ftp as you suggested.
It is true that it did not require to start an Admin session to install them, but at least to log as admin to let the installation program being launched.
Did I miss something? Was there another way to install the updates which does not require any admin rights?
Many thanks advanced and kind regards.

We have not turned on the new update method by default. In the connkit, you can turn it on in your preferences. Now that you have the latest version, it will support the new update method. To get to this version however, there is no other way then the old "admin required" updater.

Just curiosity... would it be safe to downgrade the physical Hp Prime from FW 10077 to FW 8151 ?

Yes. You will loose any data however due to the internal flash format.

Why not just use the new method instead of giving a choice to use the old? If the option is for use in businesses, the user can just turn the option on him/herself anyway. You're not relying on that old security-by-ignorance method, are you? Smile

Tim might not have made it clear enough.
The new method does rely on code that resides IN THE CALCULATOR to work.
So, it can not be used to update a calculator that has pre-10077 FW.
Once you have FW 10077 on your calculator, THEN you can use the new method.

Hello!
One question... When updating the real calculator via Conkit(10077), Does recovery mode is supposed to happen on the Prime at the end of the FW Update(10077)?

Thank you.

Great Update

I haven't found any broken apps just yet.
Let me rephrase that just a bit, my apps that didn't use hacks aren't broken, but my app that used the KILL function for RPN doesn't work anymore : (, but that was expected.

But I have found that my screen flickers like it is refreshing too often. It might just be my calculator though.

Kudos HP Team.

What was this "hack"? I'd like to check that it wasn't disabled on accident or anything.

A general question: if someone's calculator wasn't able to update and the reset methods wouldn't work, is there a contact email/phone number they can call? I had one person who tried to update their calculator but it was bricked. Thank you.

I wondered that, too. Is there a fatal bug in the 2016 version?

Basically, there primary concern is with the issue critor reported and have been unable to reproduce it at all (we've been trying for over a month now) but have seen at least one other unit do a similar thing. For caution, they decided to pull it last week as the OS vendor investigates further.

RE: New Version: 2016.04.14 r10077
I had a problem updating my calculator also. When I clicked on backup, the program just shut down.

I don't know if this will provide a hint, but I accidentally erased all my programs when I mistakenly hit the Exam Mode and couldn't get out until I connected to a USB port on my computer. Having lost all my programs anyway, I thought,"What the heck, I have nothing to lose."

I went to the Connectivity Kit again - which I had already updated along with the virtual calculator - and to my surprise, the update to my calculator went without a hitch. I was then able to retrieve my programs that I had saved earlier before I did any updates to the Connectivity Kit and the virtual calculator.

I'm running on a new HP Envy computer with Windows 10. I have no clue why erasing all my programs made the update work.
