iPod Touch/Fin-12c
I have an old iPod touch second generation and I had Fin-12c by Thomas Fors on it. When I reformatted the touch and went to reinstall the apps I discovered I could not find any of the Thomas Fors apps. Did HP force him to remove the apps?

Also, what are people's favorite HP Calc emulators that run on the iPod Touch? I have both a 2nd gen iPod touch and the new 6th gen that just came out.

Sadly, my all time favorite hp Calc emulator i41cx+ will not run on the old iPod touch 2nd gen which is why I picked up the latest iPod Touch 6th gen.

TIA

RE: iPod Touch/Fin-12c
He may simply have removed it because it did not want to pay the yearly fee or any other reason. If you type "Thomas Fors hp-12c", you will find his email and you can ask him directly.

My favorite emulators on iOS are the WP-31s & WP-34s but I'm biased ;-)

My favorites (use 'em all the time, iTouch Gen 5) are Free42, Free 15C, and Vintage-45 (99¢). Vintage-45 unfortunately turns off your music for no good reason; the others can be played with while rocking to your favorite tunes.

Fixed the broken link.

Quote:This simulator has been developed independently and does not rely on any actual HP-15C code or ROM images.

0.18 →H 1 − →H.MS
-0.82

While the correct result is: -0.42.

RE: iPod Touch/Fin-12c
Code:
function to_hms(x) {
    var r = Math.floor(x);
    x -= r;
    x *= 60;
    r += Math.floor(x) / 100;
    x -= Math.floor(x);
    x *= 60;
    r += x / 10000;
    return r;
}

This doesn't appear to work with x = -0.7.

RE: iPod Touch/Fin-12c
For those interested in debugging this in firefox:
  • Open free15c in a new tab.
  • Right-click and select: Inspect Element (Q)
  • Choose the Debugger in the 3rd tab of the lower part of the new window.
  • Select the file: hp15c.js
  • Scroll down to line 1891 and click on this line-number. This adds a break-point on this line.
  • Enter -0.7 in the calculator and hit [f] [→H.MS].
  • Now you can use Step Over (F10) to single-step through this function.
  • The actual values of the variables are displayed in a separate window.

Cheers
Thomas

The very first calculator app that I added to the iPod Touch 4th generation was the WP 34S and in fact it's pinned as one of the four on the bottom of every screen.

Since then I've also used the R.L.M Software 17BII Plus ($4.99), especially because I can port a number of my solver equations from the HP 100LX and 200LX.

More recently I've added Free42 and Free 15C, but I'm just getting used to them.

I'll also use the R.L.M. Software 12P-Lite ($1.99), but run it with Platinum Model turned off, since I prefer the yellow second function color. The price for this app is the same as for the 12C-Lite but gives the choice among both versions.

RE: iPod Touch/Fin-12c
I am running ND1 from Naive Designs on everything (ipod touch Gen 2 and 4, iPad gen 1 and iPad mini gen 2). It is more like an HP50g but can be programmed in RPL (or RPL+) and JavaScript. There is a free version with limited functionality (ND0) as well. ND1 now interfaces with Wolfram Alpha as well.

Website is http://naivedesign.com/ND1/ND1.html

I do have the Vicinno emulator of the HP-12C. It is very good, but awkward for me on the small size of the iPod Touch. I have others that I prefer:
RPN-70 SD (Financial) by CuVee Software
RPN-45 SD by CuVee Software
RPN-35 SD by CuVee Software
GO-21 by BigCatOs
GO-25 by BigCatOs
Legendary 67 by Fabian Franz

All of the above nicely emulate HP Calcs of the same numbers. The CuVee ones are the most realistic and full of additional features.

I also like one called Active RPN by Nolan Piper. It does not emulate an HP, but it does have a live stack view even on the iPod Touch and is quite instructive of what is happening with each function and is even programmable.

All of the above are very reasonable and the RPN-70 SD is even free.

Bob

Bob
