RE: WP34s flash technical erase procedure
Please RTFM, App. A, "Updating your WP 34S", and find you don't have to erase (or "kill") your WP 34S with any update at all.

  1. Press ON+STO+STO to save RAM to flash.
  2. Press ON+D to unlock the next step.
  3. Press ON+S+S to enable SAM-BA boot mode.
  4. Connect the calculator and arm MySamba.
  5. Turn ON the calculator and start the transfer.
  6. Reset the Calculator when done.
  7. On power on the saved RAM contents will be restored.

The library will be replaced by what comes with the flash image but the RAM contents will be preserved.

Wow, this is far simpler than the full erase/load procedure I've been doing every time; thanks for laying it out Marcus! I got the original procedure to work the first time I loaded my 34S (I luckily have the original cable) and have always used the same procedure. "So...", I wondered, "why isn't this in the manual?" but before placing a target squarely on my head and asking, I went looking for it, and of course found it easily. And I know I had been thru all the Appendices on the original hard copy version, just guess it didn't register. Hmmm, what else did I miss?

Like any high-quality tool, it keeps getting easier to use the 34S, though I haven't (and won't) scratch the surface of what some of the locals here do on a daily basis.

Thanks.
