From Investopedia:

The law of supply and demand states that when an item is scarce, but many people want it, the price of that item will rise.

By "piling on" you guys are contributing to the price increasing.

ehm, ehm, I could "pretend" to don't want one, so the price will decrease ;-) Smile

RE: WANTED: FORTH/Assembler ROM for 71b
The last Forth/Assembler module that I remember seeing sell on TAS went for $200. That was a real sale. I don't expect the price will drop as long as there are folks who are willing to pay those prices...

Oh, yes, I know! That's why I posted the result of a real sale. I'm not certain that any really get sold for $395 or $495.

Good luck!

RE: WANTED: FORTH/Assembler ROM for 71b
I have a Forth Assembler module that I could part with email or PM me with your offer shipping from the east coast of Canada.

I also have a 128K card reader port RAM module made by HHP. This would appear to have been a prototype module as it is only fastened together on one end and a hole is cut in the bottom to provide clearance for one chip. This module started out as a 96K module composed of a stack of three small 32K boards but I swapped one of them for a 64K board I had to make it 128K. I don't use it anymore as I have FRAM modules in both of my 71Bs.

PM or email me with your offers for either or both.

If it has not to be a real module I gugest to program a EPROM module by Dave.

The HP-71 FORTH/Assembler, FORTH/41 Emulator, and Diagnostic ROMs cannot be copied to EPROM as they all use fixed-address ROMs.

I don't know exactly how the hard-coded portion is programmed into the EPROM, but I would think it would be something that could be duplicated.

MikeSD is working on reverse-engineering the CMT-71-P01 so it may be possible in the near future.

RE: WANTED: FORTH/Assembler ROM for 71b
Dave,

You mentioned in the Classifieds that you would be willing to burn CMT EPROMs. Is the CMT71-32E 32K EPROM one of the modules that can be programmed? I have one of these burned with the Math Pac. I already have several HP Math Pacs. Would it be possible to reprogram this EPROM as a JPC module?

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Yes, this can be done. Excellent choice too.

After the JPCF05 LEX file, there is about 6KB left, so you can include always-useful LEX files such as ROMCOPY, HLPLEX, DISLEX, etc. The JPC ROM also includes a poll-handler that runs a BASIC program called ML (for MEM LOST) upon initial startup after you experience a MEM LOST; this program is run automatically and is used to set various things needed after a MEM LOST. JFG's file package (and the JPC ROM manual) include a sample one, but you don't need to use that as-is, you really should tailor it to your own 71B personality preferences.

For example, this is mine:

Code:
100 SUB ML @ DIM D$
110 FINPUT D$,"Time : Hr:Mn:Sc","7P2UP2UP2UP",A
120 SETTIME D$[1,2]&":"&D$[3,4]&":"&D$[5]
130 FINPUT D$,"Date : Mo/Dy/Yr","7P2UP2UP2UP",A
140 SETDATE D$[5]&"/"&D$[1,2]&"/"&D$[3,4]
150 DELAY 0,0
160 USER ON
170 STACK 15
180 WIDTH 80
190 PWIDTH INF
200 DEF KEY "#46","RUN ";
210 END SUB

Since I have programs for building each of my 71B machine configurations, this is just the generic machine setup stuff to make it 'act' the way I expect my 71B to act (after a MEM LOST, a 71B can feel really broken until some of these things are set).

BTW, the obscure looking FINPUT commands are part of the JPC ROM, which is why they may not look familiar.

Hi Mark,

What Bob said.

You can send me a list of files and whatever ML customization you'd like.

Thank you Bob and Dave.

I've moved this conversation to the original 71B EPROM Programming thread. I actually have two EPROMs and need suggestions on how to best fill the second EPROM as a custom ROM.

it's a pity that module cannot be copied. I've it in the emu 71b and it's ok, the real one seems to be rare or expensive...

From the IDS: Hard-configuration is a mask-programmed option which is selected at
mask-generation time for the ROM chip.

So that pretty much kills it for an EPROM.
