I've followed this and related date handling threads out of curiosity, having no specific interest in date functions myself other than the occasional 'how many days old are you?', 'what day of the week was my birthday in 1999' and other party tricks.

Rather than "why is this useful function missing?" I would ask "why is this missing function useful?".

Not trying to judge at all, just mystified? Is the need for these negative dates and related functions related to astronomy?
