Bill

Thanks, I'll check it out. I've got this win10 pad real cheap, and use it for various tasks.

It doesn't seem to adjust as the pad rotates, but nevertheless is quite usable. Next, I hope to try some code sharing with the DM42.

Tom,

I know you wanted to use it on the Win Tablet. But I would highly recommend picking up a cheap Android Tablet. I just got the Amazon Kindle 7" hd and free42 works great on it. It scales to fit the screen and then when I rotate it, I have landscape 42s (similar to a 11c/12c/15c). I have free42s on all my android tablets/phones and much prefer using it there as opposed to my Windows Winbook tablet.

Out of curiosity, is it one of those Digiland tablets that Best Buy was selling for $40 last fall?

I understood (perhaps incorrectly) that they could only install apps from the Amazon App store, and could not access Apps from the Android Play Store. If I can load anything from the Play Store, I'll have a Fire within a couple days.

Hi Bob,

I followed the instructions from How-To-Geek that tells you how to get the Google play store loaded:

How to Install Google Play Store on Fire Tablet

I also installed the Nova Launcher that gives you a more Google experience:

Make the Kindle more Google Like

I have all my Google Play Store apps on my Kindle Fire. It's really a pretty nice tablet - especially for the price.

Dave,

You were probably asking Tom which Win Tablet he has. I have one that I picked up a couple of years ago at Micro-Center. Microcenter was selling a 8" winbook tablet for $100 that had 32gb storage space, full size USB, microsd slot for more storage and HDMI out. It came with Windows 8 and was a real disaster. But when I upgraded it to Windows 10, it became very usable.

Thanks Bill, this is great news! Fire tablets are about the best value around, and being able to use real Android on it makes it an instant no-brainer.

Thank You!

There are a couple of quirks. When you power up, it comes up in the Amazon interface. I then just tap the Nova Launcher Icon and I am now in the standard Google interface. The quirk is that the back key and exit key from many apps will take you back to the Amazon Interface. Then you need to tap Nova Icon to get back to standard Android interface.

I never could get it to lock into the Nova Launcher. But it's just a minor annoyance.

I spent the extra $15 to eliminate Amazon Ads. In my book that was money well spent.

On the Amazon screen, I created a folder and then put all of amazon's apps into it so they sort of disappear.

One last thing: The Amazon Store does not always give you the latest version of a program. For example, I have the Adobe Acrobat Reader version 17.3.1 installed from the Google Play Store. The Amazon App Store will offer to "upgrade" it to version 15.3.1. So you need to be careful with which store you use for the updates.

RE: Free42 on Win10?
Frys has had a couple variants, 32GB, 2G, microsd slot, audio jack, dual cameras, microusb charger, $57.00. How could one resist ? It seems to have greater than 4hour battery life. Put in a 32G uSD card, and I've got a 64GB pad for cheap! And the Free42 is SO Fast.

RE: Free42 on Win10?
Well, given the speed, I thought it was time for a rough, simple 'drag race'.

The code:
LBL TST
+
GTO TST

Load the stack with '1's and XEQ TST, counting, "one thousand one, one thousand two, ...one thousand five.' - keying the R/S just as one says 'five'.

This is VERY rough, all of the environments may have different other code in them. I used this only as a rough guideline. There are obviously differences in the Free42 code, but nevertheless:
[By the way, I have data memory configured as 100 complex data memories; not certain if this affects program execution.]

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I ran each one about 5 times - the number listed is a rough average:

Win10 pad, Free42 2.0.6 Binary: 7.7E6
Win10 pad, Free42 2.0.6 Decimal: 4.7E6

DM42, V2.11.1: 13. 14E3

HP42, VerC, SN333gS...: 140

Android on Samsung S5 2.0.6: 1.4E6

Apple iPhone 2.0.5: 18.5E6

Curious - the iPHone version seems to be the fastest!

A4N,
TomC
