New Version 2016 10 17. Rev:10638
Looks like they are in the process of uploading a new version. New files for the Connectivity Kit and Virtual Calculator are there but not the firmware yet.

Weren't there some issues regarding the previous installation relating to MS Surface devices, and similar architectures? This release may address that problem. Also, documentation has been discussed ad nauseum, maybe there is some improvement there? I haven't installed it, yet, so this is just a WAG.

There is exactly one difference - the problem in the emu/connkit and crashing on the surface tablets or similar systems that had that problem won't be happening. There will be no uploaded firmware. The fact that it was uploaded on a Friday also would be a good clue that there is nothing but very minor changes. :-)

Also, the documentation is more up to date.

We have no control over this. The installer doesn't place those shortcuts - so the installer couldn't remove them. If you are manually making a link it is up to you to remove that link.

I see no new documentation on the site.

It is inside the installers. The separate files are being held up due to a process thing on that site.

We still wouldn't be able to control it. It is purely dependent on the msi engine which changes behavior seemingly at random. Additionally, it is now heavily discouraged to do this by Microsoft and they do not allow this behavior in anything preinstalled.

If you want a link, feel free to make one. Should we use hours of our time to save you 10seconds? Or spend that doing something more worthwhile in the actual core of the calculator?

By the way, have you actually ever purchased a Prime of any kind yet (software version or hardware)? Or are you still only using the freely available emulator?

RE: New Version 2016 10 17. Rev:10638
compsystems, it's perhaps due to language limitations, but I (and probably also Tim since he asked the question) have often the feeling that you are *requesting* loudly a lot of features, without much recognition of the efforts put into the current version of the Prime. I don't know if you do the same for other softwares you are using, but I would say that this is not the best way to put your wishes on the todo list ... at least for free softwares.

RE: New Version 2016 10 17. Rev:10638
compsystems,

Tim, and Parisse are saying what I have been thinking as well. I understand your enthusiasm for detail, but if you step back a bit, and consider what the Prime calculator represents ... from a higher level perspective... it might be useful. A tremendous amount of work, on-going evolution by several highly qualified folks, for a purpose-defined market, with a lot of external manufacturing demands; are embedded in this device. Tim, Parisse, and several others have responded very well, to all of the market constraints. They have welcomed constructive feedback, responded with product fixes, and captured suggestions for future development, as best I could reasonably hope.

Take a moment and scan through your previous posts, realizing that your readers include several subject matter experts, with many years experience. If you discover something the calc is designed to do, but doesn't do it, (or properly), if you could briefly summarize the issue, and include an example, I know I would appreciate that format, and would respond back if I felt I could contribute something useful.

Watching the prime evolve is interesting, but I quite well have enjoyed the $125 I spent for the HC, in its almost daily usage for both educational and real world problem solving.

Thanks,

-Dale-

Hi , Compysystems .

You must understand that the Prime is a work in progress .
For my point of view , at 200 euros it still would have been a bargain .
To give you an idea ,I've got two Primes with the new buttons and one with the old .
You said you've had many hp calculators , so you should appreciate the gap from those devices to the prime .
Google the prime in french and you will see what it is capable of .
From the codes you will find , you will learn a lot .
http://www.calculatrices-hp.com

I hope you're familiar with the french language .

Working on my Surface Pro 4! Great, thanks a lot!

For some reason I can only browse the ftp directory only on IE11, Edge/Chrome redirect to another website (http://whp-hou9.cold.extweb.hp.com/pub/c...ors/Prime/) and they show an access error, but I can download the files in Edge/Chrome with the direct paths:
Code:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/calculators/Prime/HP_Prime_Connectivity_Kit_20161017.exe
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/calculators/Prime/HP_Prime_Virtual_Calculator_2016_10_17.exe

Glad it is working.

Hopefully, we'll be able to switch to html only and bypass the FTP before too much longer so that won't be a problem again.

Old on the left, new on the right. The keys' plastic is lighter-colored now, and the blue ink is darker. The orange looks darker now but it's actually unchanged.

I can't seem to get to that page. I tried Edge and Internet Explorer.

The virtual calculator has an updated version. I'd like the virtual and physical calculators to match even if the differences are minor.

There is no minor difference... there is no difference.

Also, in the future the hardware calculator will most likely be trailing the software only versions. It will be very likely the apps will receive more regular updates for example due to the ease at updating them, and the hardware less frequently. I wouldn't be surprised to see that being the new norm.
