When search is selected, it should open in Alpha mode. Also, it's very common to exit while looking at items and have to enter again and re-enter the search term, so maybe it should open search with the last search term in there. <esc> can clear it.

If you press [Tree] instead of exiting, you can then resume your search (without needing to re-type the target) by pressing [Next].
I know...it's just by accident, I often press something else instead and have to start the search all over again.

In that case, you can press Shift Menu (Paste) instead of retyping it. That'll usually save you a few keystrokes.
