Why am I skirting the rules? :-)

The HP 41C linked to has a 1954A serial number. That went past the end of the year. Was the line being run by interns over the new year?

My beloved first one is a 1953A
It looks strange at the bottom edge, is something glued onto it?

I noticed this too.

I think it's sitting on a calculator stand (for a better photo angle) and you're seeing the bottom lip of the stand.
