Any fans of this man known as "The Father of The HP Calculator" ?

This Princeton Ph.D. really moved HP into what was knows as The Wickes Level.

I, for one, am a big fan of his work and his books! I have owned and read: Hp-28 Insights, Hp 48 Insights: (1 & 2) and HP 41 - HP 48 Transitions. Great work!
In Corvallis, his underlings were known as "The Candles."

Whenever they were stumped on a problem someone would call out "These candles need some Wickes!!!" and he would emerge and set them straight.

He is retired now. i wonder what he uses as a personal handheld.

Back in 2008 following the HHC calculator conference in Corvallis, a few of us had the pleasure of communicating with Bill via the HP "Halo" telepresence system. (Bill was still with HP and working in the Halo group, but out of town at the time...) We actually asked him that very question and he indicated that he would pull out an HP48 for everyday calculations.

Certainly the device he knows best. He needs large pocket though.

I thoroughly enjoyed his book on Synthetic Programming for the HP-41 series.
