My first personal calculator in mid '70s was the Novus Mathematician (still working and complete) you can see in the picture.
Yeah, that hairy, ugly teenager on the backgroud it's me during my University days (Chemistry)... don't laugh so loud, please!

My first HP has been a 41C, booked on Sep 1979. But I finally put my grasp on it only on December.
I began collecting its siblings some twenty years later.
