Service manual for HP9872C plotter?
Message #1 Posted by John Ioannidis on 20 May 2013, 9:57 p.m.

Does anyone have a copy of the HP9872C plotter Service Manual? I found a unit, but the XY transport mechanism is broken. If I'm lucky, it's just the belts that have been knocked off the pulleys.

I'll worry about where to find pens if I manage to repair it!

Thanks

/ji

Hello!

I have one, but it is going to be quite expensive to ship it from Europe to the States and back (I still have the plotter so I might need it myself one day...).

Both axes? Can you move the pen holder freely? Otherwise the wires (the sled is not driven by belts, but by some kind of piano wires) are stil in place).

Can you hear the motors when you turn on the device? They always try to move the pen in the (0,0) position upon startup.

What happens when you operate the manual controls on the front panel?

Pens are no problem at all, there are plenty on eBay, both originals from HP and third party. They are common among many types of Hp plotters, many of which are still in use.

Happy troubleshooting Max

It's available on hpmuseum.net, just search for 9872C. BTW, this plotter is a lot of fun, I hope you succeed in repairing yours.
