HP-50G belt clip case
Message #1 Posted by Dan Lewis on 14 Apr 2013, 4:49 p.m.

Hello all,

I don't know why I didn't seek help here before, but does anyone know a good way of adding a belt clip to the HP-50G case? And for that matter, the HP-35s case as well.

I know the back of the case (of both calculators) is rather soft, so I feel like a belt clip from a tape measure or something would eventually rip off at the attachment points. I'd considered just riveting a clip onto the case, but then the rivets would rub against the back of the calculator.

I would really like to be able to clip the 50G to my belt, just like I can do with the HP-65, 35, etc.

Please let me know if you come up with anything. Thanks,

Dan

Might try adding a relatively stiff sheet of plastic, and riveting it in place with a flap of leather or something over the sheet (to cover the rivets).

Mount the belt clip through the case, to the sheet of plastic.

I have played with the idea on and off as I would like to do the same thing. In fact I'd like to be able to get a couple of pens/pencils in it as well.

Played with some ideas with the provided HP case and to be honest, I found was is rubbish. It does the job but it's not very good quality. Even the magnetic fastener is on wonky and one edge is fraying already.

Currently investigating military/law enforcement pouches for the task as you can get a couple of pens/pencils in them as well.

Edit: oh and investigating Japanese pencil cases and bags.

I use a ripoffs case with belt clip. Very useful (especially when you forget your belt at home). Only thing is it doesn't have space for a pen. The model CO-29 fits the 50G perfectly.

Instead of a clip, my 35 pouch has a loop sewed to it, and that's what I'd let a skilful person do with e.g. a 48 case, if I'd want to have it with me all the time. Braces wearers are out of luck, unfortunately.

That's what I had thought of doing. I suppose you'd have to rip the seams of the case in order to sew the loop on with a machine. At least you'd have holes to sew through when rejoining the two case halves. Seems like a lot of work, although, this is probably the best way to do it.
