Incorrect, reality is not cruel. Reality is certainly real, but it is not cruel. It is also not loving, either. It is neutral.
cru·el/ˈkruəl/ Show Spelled [kroo-uhl] Show IPA
adjective, cru·el·er, cru·el·est.
1. willfully or knowingly causing pain or distress to others.
2. enjoying the pain or distress of others: the cruel spectators of the gladiatorial contests.
3. causing or marked by great pain or distress: a cruel remark; a cruel affliction.
4. rigid; stern; strict; unrelentingly severe.
Definition number 4 seems like it might begin describing reality, but, to an optimist reality is none of these things. So describing reality as complying with definition number 4 is only an opinion, a point of view. And being subjective, is not considered reality.
