HP currently has nothing comparable. What is there doesn't need a colour display. But actually HP invented that class of calculators with the Xpander. It was just too early.

Not too early, just killed by non-visionary management. HP's management has migrated from founders who made products because they thought it was a good idea to make them, to people who are too concerned with what the "consumers" tell them (consumers is in inverted commas because a small sample does not represent the market). Steve Jobs did not build his empire by making what the people wanted, but by making the people want what he made (most likely because he felt that what he made was a good idea). The Xpander could have been in it's 3rd generation now (an upgrade around 2007 and a colour screen by 2010 or 2011) and been ahead of the pack. Edited: 29 Nov 2012, 6:40 a.m.

Carly basically decreed "HP is not involved in education" and it was shut down 2 days before launch. No. other. reason. They had spent a TON of time doing teacher training, working to get it approved for all major exams despite having a stylus, and had a LOT of very excited educators who were trained as evangelists from all over the world.
