WP 34s: IrLED
Message #1 Posted by Gerry Schultz on 22 May 2012, 2:18 p.m.

I received my crystals and capacitors today from Digi-Key to add to my 34ses. I can't find any reference to the type of infrared LED Katie used to allow the 34s to print. I remember in her posting she got a good distance from the calculator to the printer and it worked solidly. Where can I find the (Digi-Key) part number of the LED she used?

Also, in the real folder there are several calc.bin files and I was wondering what is the price for the increased functionality? Less user programming space?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

Gerry

This is the IR emitter I used.

It will cost you some space in flash memory (which, IMHO, is abundant anyway). No losses in RAM, however :-) Cf. p. 117.

Edit: Looking at the file sizes in SVN, I'd say STOPW will cost you 1kB of flash and printer support 3kB more. Marcus will know better.

And I am still hoping it will be possible to squeeze in stopwatch AND printing. I rellay love both features and have a hard time deciding which image to flash the calculator with.

The print enabled image also contains the stop watch.

So no need to hope, it is done.

Thanks for all the responses. I just ordered some LEDs and 26 gauge wire wrap. I don't want to crack my display.

That might be a hair too thick, but you'll probably be ok. I used 28 gauge and noticed that if the wires crossed it put enough pressure on the LCD to cause a temporary dark spot. Don't let those wires cross under the display!

Great! When did that happen? Was that the reason for your memory saving exercise?

Cheers, Harald

The recent move of the distribution code to xrom made room.
