HP-41C pcb connector upgrade
Message #1 Posted by Hans Brueggemann on 19 May 2012, 6:58 a.m.

HP-41C users who have trouble with the pink-colored pcb connectors, or want to upgrade to an HP-41CL and are looking for a solution that is capable to handle the extra current during flash activities, may want to look at a solution that i am using for quick-testing HP-41C processor boards here.

That´s a neat and handy alternative, thanks for sharing Hans.

I don't see the details well enough in the pic, are they piercing the mother board to get affixed?

Best, ÁM

no piercing/drilling necessary. these are SMD connectors. pins of connectors bent 90° downward and then directly soldered onto the keyboard connector pads.
the tiny white strips ("StripStyrene" from evergreen) are underlayed as supporters to keep the contacts level with the keyboard pcb.
blue tape prevents blank areas of contact springs from short-circuiting to top processor board traces.

OT: 'who's' in the picture? (HP-41C pcb connector upgrade)

Hi.

In this picture one can identify an HP71B (left side, back, out of focus) but I could not define the notebook in the right side. It teases me for the color, seems to be an HP. If you forgive me for being nosy, which one is it, please? Just curiosity.

Cheers.

no worries, luiz ;o)
it has indeed a story to tell. during a rainy day with roof windows open, it was fully submerged into water (switched on and running, of course), flew from my palm and had its display shattered when i missed the last step of a staircase (you know, one of those bad-hair-days) and got a nice retrofit with an anti-glare-type display, and now has an SSD for a second life as platform of all my -41/-71 related experiments. it's a samsung R710 running windows 7 with modified kernel to use the above-3gig-RAM as ramdisk. you can see it more clearly in one of the other pictures of my FRAM71 photostream.
cheers!

HI.

I've been looking for this kind of 'stuff' for a long time, without any clue about how would it look like and if I'd ever find it.

Danke!
