Re: [WP 34S] New keyboard layout anybody? - Edited Message #122 Posted by David Hayden on 7 Oct 2011, 5:59 p.m., in response to message #1 by Marcus von Cube, Germany
Responding to the thread so far:
I agree that RCL L is fine in place of LASTx. Yes it's a little different but it's intuitive and the same number of keystrokes.
I think we can definitely move ./, to a menu. Perhaps more than anything else, that function is likely to be used once when the user gets their calculator and never ever again.
I agree that || is so specialized that it should move off the keyboard. I completely understand its importance to electrical engineering, but functions like this are the reason why A-D are assignable. Further, || is easily misunderstood as |x| for the beginner. At least it was for this beginner.... :)
If you change the keyboard, I think you should increase the revision number to 2.2. Eric could put the rev number on the labels and this would help people keep straight which keyboard layout goes with which software version.
I think PSE could move to P.FCN if the space is needed.
I'd leave "H.d" as the name of the command at [f] [RCL]. "H" is unintuitive. Also, with FIX/SCI/ENG automatically changing to DECM, I don't think we need DECM on the keyboard explicitly.
Finally, let me say NICE JOB on the keyboard layout in general. This discussion gave me a chance to really look it over, and, given the huge amount of functionality involved, it's really well done.
One last comment for Eric: in dim light, I have trouble distinguishing between the blue and green on the keyboard overlay (I have one with the clearcoat if that makes a difference). I'd prefer a brighter green if it's possible.
