Have to shout out - I have a 41 again! Message #1 Posted by Norman Dziedzic on 1 Sept 2010, 12:23 p.m. It's new (old) calculator week here! After ditching my original 41CX post college I once again have a true blue HP41 (Not a CX but CV). Loving every minute of it and the Survey Pack I got with it is way cool! Should be getting another 41-CV later this week to mess around with (it is non-functioning). Now if the post office can find the 31E that was shipped to me I'll be happier than a pig in <>. Something about holding such a well designed--and well made piece of machinery--just makes one elated. I had an early HP-41C which I gave up on when the battery terminals corroded and I (mistakenly) thought it wasn't worth repairing. Went with that many peripherals too. So in a fit of nostalgia recently, I went crazy to simply buy up a bunch of stuff on the popular auction site. So now I have a very nice HP-41CX, Advantage module, combined Math/Stats module, Finance module, and most recently a PPC ROM. So now the machine is "fully loaded" and not only can I not recall how to use 99% of the functions available to me, I don't have any reason to use them anyway. How's that for irrational?

I would press g SF 8 to get into complex mode and I was all set for circuit analysis class. Even so I wanted to have a 41, but because it cost twice or three times as much, not to mention the peripherals, I resisted... until about four years ago. I was lucky enough to get an unused late production run 41CX from a friend, for a reasonable price. Later I got a card-reader, an Advantage module and two IR modules. Although I like the 41CX, I think I would have regretted if I had switched my 15C for a 41, but it would be great if I had owned both then. http://www.geocities.ws/gwbarbosa/hp-41cx_.jpg

Everyone has their own version of irrationality. There are a lot of collections I can't understand but then again, the people collecting spoons are not likely to understand why anyone would collect calculators.
