OT: Jornada 680 communication problem
Message #1 Posted by Karl-Ludwig Butte on 8 June 2010, 3:43 p.m.

Dear all,

I need some help with my Jornada 680 exchanging data via Microsoft ActiveSync under Windows 2000. The situation is the same with both ActiveSync versions 3.6 and 3.8. When I connect the 680 via the RS232-Interface, ActiveSync recognizes the 680 and pops up the partnership/guest-dialogue. After selecting the guest-option I can select the backup-function, which works fine. But when I select the explore-function, a Windows-Explorer window "Mobile Device" opens but stays empty and showing the full hourglass. One can wait for hours but the directory of the 680 never shows up. In Task-Manager, the application is shown with status "not responding".

So in principle, the communication channel works - otherwise ActiveSync wouldn't recognize the 680 and wouldn't backup the memory contents. On the other hand I don't have any explanation why the explore-function doesn't work.

Does anyone of you has an idea what's wrong and/or what can I do to get the explore-function to work ?

Any hint will be very much appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

Kind regards

Karl

Dear All,

for all who may run into the same problem, I found out what caused this strange behaviour: In the combination of Windows 2000, McAffee Firewall and ActiveSync 3.8 the Firewall blocked especially the explore-process of ActiveSnc. Add an allowance for this process (or replace this firewall with a better one) and everything works fine.

Regards

Karl
