Hi Didier. According to Craig Finseth's web site it was released on July 1, 1979.

According to PPC Journal V6 N4 Page 6 July 1979 column one paragraph two, its July 16th 1979.

IIRC, this has been discussed in the past, and I do not recall if the matter was truly settled.

A random selection of late 70s'/early 80s' entries on Craig's site has the first of the month used as the introduction date. I speculate that it is an estimate. IMHO, PPC Journal has more street cred.

July 16th is correct. I remember it like it was yesterday and I couldn't get a machine until 7/31....it was a frustrating two weeks' wait. Here is a copy of the HP press release, as published in the PPC Journal, Volume 6, Number 4, page 8:
