uWatch2 Front Panel
Message #1 Posted by DaveJ on 19 May 2009, 6:59 p.m.

It's looking like I might now be limited to 24 keys with 7mm spacing, so I have been thinking adding some shift functions might be the way to go, so here is my first attempt:

Or do people think the display now looks too cluttered?
(The fonts need some trimming etc, it's just an example) Shift functions allow easy access to most needed functions without resorting to any menu system.

You could of course go berserk with multiple shift functions etc, but I think that's way too much.

The display window is now a different ratio to accommodate a new LCD I'm getting. If it doesn't work out I'll have to go back to the previous squarer shaped one, and that will cramp things a bit.

Due to the lack of keys, side function buttons have been dropped in favor of 4 above the display. This will work better in practice anyway.

Sorry, alpha keypad support is gone.

As usual, comments and passionate discussion invited :->

Dave.

I think you can get away with <ENG> conversions and put PI on the keyboard instead. Replace <ENG with a DISP key which shows a menu in the top row but can be easily followed by a digit to set the display precision without changing the display mode. Holding the key down for half a second could be used to show full precision numbers temporarily.

Your design lacks the arrow keys. :(

Or hows about a new 40mm x 40mm case version with 24 keys:

Dave.

I think I like this one. Let's see, 40 mm is 4 cm, which is about 1.6 inches (my apolgies to the metricated world). Wow, that's tiny. Smaller than the small dimension of uWatch1.

I didn't think about the keyboard layout yet, I'll let you know if I come up with anything.
