Re: Cleaning HP 15C Message #2 Posted by Raymond Del Tondo on 15 Dec 2007, 8:43 p.m., in response to message #1 by Terry Holmes
Yes, it is possible to remove the PCB from a Voyager case,
but this will always mean cutting the heat stakes which hold
the PCB and upper case together.
I disassembled Voyager calcs several times,
and I don't recommend removing the PCB to impatient people;-)
Cutting the stakes in itself is not the problem,
except that it's very many stakes,
but one has to be VERY CAREFUL not to cut the stakes to near at the base,
since you'll need some material for reassembling the unit,
and not to cut into the contact lines on the PCB.
So you may see this can't be done many times with the same unit,
and after all I'd rather recommend to clean the unit from the outside as far as possible,
and at some time try to get an unused unit for the collection;-)
