Transfer of programs between 41CX and Windows XP computer
Message #1 Posted by Prabhuraj Bhooplapur on 7 May 2006, 1:21 a.m.

I have a HP82164A - the HPIL to RS232C interface. I would like to know how one could transfer programs from HP41CX/HP41CV/HP41C calculators using this interface to a Windows XP Personal Computer. Thanks for your responses.

Prabhu

Depends on whether you want to get it into the PC as text, or binary. I don't recall the exact details in either case, and I don't have the 82160A manual handy, but if you've got that it's fairly easy to work out.

For text, you select the 82164A as a printer (make sure the printer ROM enable switch on the bottom of the 82160A HP-IL module in the 41C is turned on, and that you don't have an 82143A printer or 82442A I/R Printer Module installed), then use the "PRP" command.

For binary, you need the Extended I/O Module. You address the 82164A as a listener, then use the "OUTP" command, with the name of the program in the alpha registers. Note that the output isn't raw binary, it's encoded as hexadecimal characters.

Hello Eric,

Thanks for your suggestions. I will try and let you know. How is my windows pc recognised by the HPIL-RS232C interface? Do I have to set up some sort of emulation?

Only with HPIL loop controler and RS232 controler, I'm able to : Download programs from hp41 to pc with the PRP command Download and upload data registers (numeric and alpha) from hp41 to pc and reverse (into an excel shett for example) But I'm unable to upload programs from pc to hp41. If anyone have an idea ....... Regards Francois

In order to transfer programs to PC and receive them from it, I use the Extended I/O INP and OUTP functions, and a Terminal software (Procomm in binary mode transfer for instance). Yours.

Actual I am working at a new solution for HP41 - RS232 - PC interfacing. When the beta-tests are finished you will get more details....

XP has a programn called HyperTerminal to talk to serial port. Sending data PC->HP41C needs protocol (XON/XOFF) set in HP82164A, namely R11=8, which requires XIO or IL-DEV module or an MLDL. Hardware: PC is a DTE, use something like 25in-9pin as here:
