HP-IL connection between 71B and 75C
Message #1 Posted by Roy Fletcher on 29 Apr 2006, 12:21 a.m.

I've tried everything but nothing seems to work. The 75C seems to need to be the controller of the loop, but it doesn't recognize the 71B as a mass storage medium. Is this possible? Or do I need to buy an RS232 or ISA adapter in order to transfer data files?

Regards. RAF

Hi, Fletcher;

I have once connected both an HP75D and an HP71B through single HPIL cables. I remember that the HPIL closed loop cannot accept more than one controller, so when you connect more than one copntroler, all of them but one must be configured to listenner. The HP71B allows being configured and a listenner, but I cannot remember which command it uses. The HPIL manual for the HP71 HPIL interface describes this command and how to use it.

Sorry not answering your question, but I believe this follow up may give you a line of action.

Best regards.

That should be CONTROL OFF. In order to function as a mass storage device, you will have to write software. Does this software already exist? I don't know.

You should be able to do "copy foo to LOOP:" on the 71 and an equivilant read command on the 75. Unfortunately, the 75's HP-IL capabilities are pretty poor out of the box. The I/O ROM adds a lot of needed functionality, such as yielding control of the loop, if I recall correctly.

Howard
