71b EPROM advice
Message #1 Posted by Jonathan Eisch on 19 Apr 2006, 1:18 a.m.

Howdy,

I recently purchased a 71b off e-bay, and it has a HHP 32k EPROM in it.

CAT:PORT(5) returns: CUSTUTIL S LEX 1007 10/24/86 11:22 5 SHOWPORT S LEX 151 10/24/86 11:22 5 FAST BASIC 2176 02/02/88 08:35 5 TITLEINS BASIC 135 02/02/88 08:51 5 LOANS BASIC 24814 01/10/88 14:11 5

line 210 of the "FAST" program says "Software (c) 1988 SOS" and line 280 says "David Erbas-White S.O.S. Co. (714) 558-1806"

I don't have any use for this EPROM, but maybe someone else does. I don't have any way to make a backup or anything, so if someone would like it, and would trade for anything more or equally useful (something like the Math pac would be cool, but I'm not picky).

Can I put a RAM module in the place of this socketed EPROM module and have it "just work" or am I suck with exactly what I have?

Thanks much! -Jonathan

Dear Jonathan, In the past I burnt 2764 - 27128 - 27256 EPROMs (8K - 16K - 32K) for my HP-71B and its HHP 32K EPROM Module. You can replace it for instance with a CMT 128K Memory Module or HHP 32K EPROM / 32K RAM Module. If I remember well CAT:PORT(5.0) in order to 'catalog' the EPROM and CAT:PORT(5.1) to read the RAM contents. I have to see if I still have binary ROM images for EPROMs. I should have somewhere or elsewhere the Math Pac. Then I could email it. ;o) Yours. Emmanuel

Thanks for the help. I don't have a way to burn eproms though. Can you burn it if I send it to you?
