Reset for the 41CV?
Message #1 Posted by christopher morgan on 3 Apr 2006, 7:11 p.m.

I started getting all the character/number elements on at once on the display where each display/number space is - rather than the outer four to make a "0", or the center horizontal one for a "-", or the center vertical and horizontal ones for a "+", I get something that looks like a "sunflower" (too many elements to make anything recognizable). I have left the batteries out for a while and it didn't help. Is there an "all reset" button or something I can use to give it a good, swift reboot? I wonder if the circuit board died just before it's 23rd birthday, and if repair is even possible to revive my dear companion. Thanks, Chris Morgan

The reset sequence for the HP-41 series is: turn the machine off, then press and hold the left-arrow key, press and release ON, then finally release the left-arrow key. That should reset everything to its original state and show the MEMORY LOST message in the display.

Christopher --

The "sunflower pattern" is undoubtedly "all 14 segments on" in a character position.

And if that doesn't work, you can read my recent thread, HP-41CX back to life using X-Function "PCLPS".

  1. Eliminate variable storage by executing "SIZE 000"
  2. Clear program memory by executing PCLPS from the X-Functions module (if you have one) with an empty Alpha register and the program pointed positioned at the beginning of program memory.
  3. Execute PACK.
  4. Reset as above.

There is also the "hot" reset while the calculator is on.

Press and hold the backarrow key, then quickly press and release the ON key. This procedure re-sets the program counter to 0000. Most usefull for crashed rom functions but worth a try.

Best
