Re: Is it about the box?
Message #1 Posted by Eric Smith on 27 Mar 2006, 9:18 p.m.

I've got a known working HEPAX which I'm willing to sell with original box and manuals for $500. I'll list it in the classifieds section.

It took me years to find one, and I was very happy to get it, but if someone's willing to pay that much, they obviously need it more than I do.

I too am willing to sell mine (Advanced HEPAX, flawless working condition) for a mere $1,500, S&H included (hey, nice touch).

Enough to entice and incent any collector worth his salt ! (such a person couldn't possibly be a woman, as they are much more sensible).

Regards, ÁM

This HEPAX got shilled and buyers are locked into the game (or maybe they agreed to it):

He started shilling at about $100.

Look at the bids list, then look at the retraction at the bottom and his feedback page. Five retractions in six months and NO purchases.

If you go here:

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=zippyanna&iid=9703515570

You can see that there have been zero (0) bid retractions on this seller's listings in the past 6 months.

And notice that the seller has 100% feedback

And notice that Matthias W. *really* wants this item!

I don't know the "ppl4world" bidder, but I recognize two other bidders as being long-time members of this forum and upstanding citizens. I do notice that ppl4world bought a zeprom from Warren Furlow recently...and of course gave and received good feedback. I'm sure that ppl4world is among us.

Prices rise when those who are in the market are willing to pay them. End of story!

Oh, and one more thing:

It is rather nice that we can identify some of the bidders. I appreciate the transparency. Yet I am unwilling to do it myself!

And one final thing: the bidding model of ebay (automatic bid increases to a fixed number) makes it a fundamentally different animal than a traditional auction.

I think the "0 retractions" listed on this seller's feedback page means he has not retracted any bids himslef. Anyway, that's what I've always understood that number to be. I could be wrong though.

You are correct:

You are well informed Bill, and you publish a lot of informations concerning other people but you are unwilling too tell us YOUR ebay alias? MAN, YOU´RE A POOR BOY! You want transparency, so please keep fair!

PS: I know "ppl4world" and I´m very happy to have him as a friend of mine, although he is bidding on this item you are shure "Matthias W. *really* wants" it.

the frequent grousing about ebay in this forum is very amusing to me. Bill is right. Prices rise when people are willing to pay them. No one puts a gun to your head and makes you bid more than you want to.

And to Matthias' credit, he does bid and does pay.

He also has a gorgeos collection and a very nice website. It is a pleasure to have Matthias as a fellow traveller in this universe. :-)
