HP-71B Power Supply Question
Message #1 Posted by Maximilian Hohmann on 3 Jan 2007, 9:11 a.m.

Hello!

Recently, I found a very nice HP-71B, but it dosen't like to power-up on batteries. Before I look inside (the operation will have to wait until I buy a new Torx T6 screwdriver anyway, the old one is too badly worn) I would like to try if the calculator works with external power.

And here is my question: Can I safely operate the 71B with the AC- adapter of an HP-41 or one for the accessories of the 41 (printer, tape drive)? I have some of those, but not the original 71B adapter...

And while I am at it: Is there a resetting-procedure for the 71B other than the "On"-and-"/"-Keys-together from the manual which might cure the problem without any furter action?

Greetings, Max

NB: Looking forward to see this thing working in view of the coming "short&sweet math challenges" :-)

The power supplies for the 41 and peripherals are the same for the 71. Earlier revs of the same power supply were shipped with the 97, and versions for the portable and portable plus, thinkjet, 9411 floppy and several other peripherals also work.

Howard

Thank you for this reply, testing the calculator with the HP-41 charger helped me to confirm that the problem had nothing to to with the power supply. It turned out to be dust/dirt inside the keyboard and could be cured with compressed air. So now I have a working HP-71B :-) My favourite LCD calculator (beside the wonderful Ti Voyage 200)!

Greetings, Max
