HP 48 Connectiion to a PC
Message #1 Posted by Charles on 17 Dec 2006, 5:08 p.m.

I've recently bought a new PC which only has USB ports and I have a couple of questions which I hope someone out there can help with.

Does anyone know if the serial cable for a 48G+ will work with a serial to USB connector ?

Does the software work with Windows XP ?

Is the cable the same for the G series and S series ?

Thanks for your help.

With MS Windows 98SE, it does for me, but I suppose that it may depend on the RS-232/USB converter and the drivers/software that comes with it. The main thing is that it will have to appear to Windows as a COM port, which I suppose is standard behaviour for these converters.

By all reports, both the Kermit-based HPComm and the Xmodem-based Conn4x work with MS Windows XP. To make full use of Conn4x, you'll need to install the included Xmodem Server library on your 48G+. Assuming that Windows XP includes HyperTerminal, you should be able to use that for either Kermit or Xmodem transfers.

Yes.

James,

Thanks for the help. I've got around to installing the USB/RS-232 convertor cable and it works for my HP48SX and 48G+ with HPComm. For anyone who is interested, the convertor is made by Newlink and was bought at Maplin Electroncis in the UK.

Regards Charles
