I guess they don't care anymore... Having been an HP employee at the time of the merger with Compaq, I can assure you it's no more an engineer company.

Gosh -- Maybe if I see how beat up the old models are, I'll be more appreciative of the shiny new ones.

Nowadays, they have neither the quality of the past nor respect for their own past and/or customers. A trash company.
It's been ages since I bought the last item from them, a China-made HP-12C, an abysmal piece of junk that doesn't even pass the keyboard test right out of the box.
Fortunately it was never intended to be actually used, else it would've been stamped against the nearest wall within the hour.

That's approximately what I said but with more guts... They're now bean-counters and financial guys, no more, i.e. nothing.

Wow! I thought I was losing my mind! I have a 12cp, less than 5 months old, and the ENTER key is already beginning to fail--I have to give the lower part of the key a good whack to place a number on the stack. A gentler touch leads to no response....

Strictly collecting. I had a US-made HP-12C (ultra-superb quality) and a Singapore-made one (very good quality) and wanted a China-made one to join the others.
I simply couldn't believe it was actually so bad, compared to the others. It is. Even worse than I expected. Were it not for collecting purposes, I would have send it back for a full refund at once. That was the last KinHPo item I bought and seriously doubt I'll ever buy anything from them in the future unless they revert to being Hewlett-Packard again, which is tantamount to a broken glass perfectly reconstructing its former unbroken shape and jumping back from the floor to the table top, i.e., not impossible but slightly implausible.

This is ridiculous and it gives a very unprofessional impression. when I , in addition, even hear about the low quality of HP calculators (even their top models) nowadays it is to my opinion a fair suggestion to HP to quit their calculator branch immediately.

But they like us!

I don't think it's so strange that the only calculator that was donated was one that's in rough shape. Aren't all the other ones being use and enjoyed by their owners?

I think it is interesting that FAQ is essentially all forwarded here!
Maybe they should start thinking about that!
Maybe they should work to make products that meet people's expectations. It isn't about bringing back the 15c. It is about continual product improvement.

Oh, I get it! It's like when George H. W. Bush said "Read my lips: no new taxes" and then there were new taxes. Just like how the 49g+ is a much faster version of the 49g and the 50g has a better keyboard and adds a serial port to the 49g+... "continual product improvement"

This guy hasn't been hired for old products' sake neither for considering our memories. We are the only ones to be able to keep old calcs alive. These were good products and you wont get any other in the future.
Please forgive me for being so sarcastic but having worked for OS corporations for 25 years now, I've understood that the devotion we have all put in our employers messages and moto are dreams.
Back in the 80s, I remember Digital's (my employer) "Pay for performance", "Customer satisfaction" and "Honesty first" messages. This is all b*llsh*t for beginners who want strong messages to sleep well at night and give a meaning to their lives.
Reality is: money first, whatever the side effects.

Can this be checkd with HP stuff if this is actually an HP page? It doesn�t look like a valid one to me, though.

I think it is real. If you go to www.hp.com, then company history, and then virtual museum, you can find the photos. Take a look at the back photo of the HP-35:

It has the corners off the back label. It looks like whoever they hired to do these photos just went to the HP service department and said "Give me some calculators to photograph". They all look like they have been serviced.
You would think that somewhere at HP they would have at least one original sample of each of their products.
Maybe Dave Hicks should offer to supply them with some really good photos (Of course for a donation to help support the HPMUSEUM.ORG site :))

They once had samples, along the Corvallis 'Wall of Fame',
but it seems these samples were lost during
reassignment of the HP Corvallis site.
When I visited the HP Hannover site about 15 years ago,

It's more than two meters in height,
and has a footprint of about a square meter.
Actually that showcase was simply empty,

also added some of their old stuff to the showcase,

I suppose we should be glad that anyone at HP even knows what an HP-41CX is. They'd have done better just to point all their vintage calculator pages directly to this site, though. Dave's stuff makes theirs look absolutely pathetic. I suppose that's actually a good metaphor for the whole company these days.
